NPS Chess Congress
A massive “Well Done!” to all those who took part in the NJCA Congress at Newcastle Prep School Sports Hall on Saturday 15th October.
This was the largest attendance for one of our Saturday congresses for a while, with over 70 children taking part during the day. Many children attended for morning or afternoon sessions to get a taste of a chess day and we hope to welcome them back to future events!
All competitors should be incredibly proud of themselves!

2022 / 2023 NJCA Calendar
Work is currently well underway in organising a full calendar of NJCA events to take place during the upcoming 2022 / 2023 academic year. This will hopefully be the first full year of events since Covid.
For those who are new to NJCA chess in the last couple of years, a full calendar involves approximately 5 NJCA Saturday Congress (supplemented by ECF, EPSCA and UK Chess Challenge events which we run on behalf of these organisations).
We hope to have the full calendar confirmed (and available on this site) before the end of the school summer holidays.
Gosforth Chess Club: Urban Green Events
Gosforth Chess Club are organising a series of casual chess sessions in some of Newcastle’s parks this summer. This seems like a fantastic opportunity to enjoy some chess in the (hopefully!) good summer weather!

NJCA Update
Due to Covid-19 Restrictions on mixing households and school facilities not currently being available for external organisations, we are unable to plan for any face to face NJCA tournaments to take place over the next few months.
However, we are working on ideas to provide online events and will update this website in due course.
We hope all our Northumbria Junior Chess Community is keeping safe and well at this time and look forward to seeing everyone once we are able to do so!
