U11 Congress and UKCC Last Chance Saloon on 4th May in Ponteland

We are pleased to be hosting our annual UK Chess Challenge Last Chance Saloon and U11 Congress on 4th May at St Mary’s Church Hall, Ponteland between 2pm and 6pm.

This event is open to anyone in Year 6 or below. The ‘Last Chance Saloon’ section provides an an additional opportunity for anyone who has not qualified for the regional Megafinal to get through to that stage (senior school children qualify automatically). Alongside this we hold a ‘normal’ U11 tournament!

NJCA NPS Congress, LJCC Qualifier and AGM: 20/10/18

Online entry is now available for our first event of the season, the NJCA NPS Congress on Saturday 20th October, 10am to 4pm.

This event also offers the opportunity for your child to qualify for London Junior Chess Classic if they achieve the required number of points. The LJCC takes place in London with U8s on 29th\30th December, U10s on 15th\16th December and U12s on 28th to 30th December. For more information please see ljcc.co.uk. If you wish to be considered eligible for qualification please tick the appropriate box on the entry form.

We are also relaunching the NJCA Grand Prix and holding the charity’s AGM at this event!

Northumbria Megafinal Results

Congratulations to all who took part in the Megafinal on Saturday 12th May! At the bottom of this post is a link to the provisional results with Gigafinal qualifiers highlighted in red.

The Northern Gigafinal takes place on 14th and 15th July in Manchester. Our results are being passed to the National Organisers who will then update their website. Once this has been done (please allow a few days) entries for the Gigafinal can be made at https://www.delanceyukschoolschesschallenge.com/gigafinals-2018/

There are 2 public events on Tuesday 13 February that everyone is invited to:

1) Grandmaster Simultaneous Display, with Northumberland’s very own GM Danny Gormally.

Tuesday February 13, 11am-1pm, at the Cafe in Newcastle City Library.

This very nice venue is now confirmed, thanks particularly to Newcastle City Library for hosting this fantastic event!

Participation is open to everyone, so why not come along and play against the reigning English Rapidplay Champion?

2) Grandmaster Coaching: An Evening with Russian GM Alexander Raetsky.

Tuesday February 13, 7pm-10pm, Forest Hall Ex-Servicemen’s Institute, 26 Crescent Way North, Forest Hall NE12 9AR.

Open to players of all ages and abilities. Cost: £10 per person (£7 for Under 18s, Senior Citizens, students, unwaged.)
